What makes these sheets extra easy
- Only 8 words. A short list that can be finished in one sitting, and read aloud in under a minute.
- One direction. Every word reads left to right, the way we read a line of text. No words go down, diagonally or backwards.
- A small grid with big letters. 10 rows of 10 letters fill the page, so each letter is about a third larger than our standard large-print sheets.
- Short words. Every word has ten letters or fewer, chosen from the theme’s most familiar words.
- Answers apart. The answer key is on its own page, so a helper can keep it aside.
Who uses them
People coming back to puzzles after a long break, readers with low vision, grandchildren puzzling alongside grandparents, English learners and activity sessions in care homes and day centers, including memory-care groups. They are leisure puzzles for enjoyment and conversation, not a medical or therapy program.
Helping someone enjoy the puzzle
- Read the list together first and talk about the theme: a favorite flower, a dog you once had.
- Offer a highlighter or a thick marker instead of a fine pen.
- If a word is hard to spot, tell them which row it is in.
- Stop while it is still fun. Finishing three words is a good afternoon too.
Every extra-easy sheet
Each theme also has an easy level (12 words, right and down) and an extra challenge (16 words in all directions), so the same topic can grow with the player.
