Ten stops each, from gentle to expert. Every trail has its own colours and a little celebration at each stop.
Easy sudoku
Tap a square and type a number from 1 to 9. Each row, column and 3 × 3 box holds every number once. Clashing numbers turn red; nothing is timed. Not sure yet? Turn on Notes to pencil in the numbers that might fit.
Take your time. There is no timer.

How to play sudoku
The grid has 9 rows, 9 columns and nine 3 × 3 boxes. Fill the empty squares so that every row, every column and every box contains the numbers 1 to 9, each exactly once. No arithmetic is needed: the numbers are just symbols.
Which level should I choose?
- Gentle puzzles give almost half the grid, so the next number is never far away. A kind first step.
- Easy puzzles can always be finished by finding a square where only one number fits. A good start for new solvers and for a relaxed group session.
- Medium puzzles also need the opposite question: in this row, where can the 7 go? There is always one square that works.
- Hard puzzles have fewer clues and may need a pencil to note possibilities.
- Expert puzzles have around 24 clues and cannot be finished with the two simple methods alone: pencil marks and patience help.
Themed sudoku trails
Each trail is ten puzzles that grow from gentle to expert, dressed in the colours of a theme: a garden path, a seaside stroll, an autumn lane and more. Start at the first stop or jump to any stop you like; finished stops are marked if you keep a puzzle garden on this device.
Every puzzle is checked by computer to have exactly one solution, so no guessing is ever required to be right.
Tips for older eyes and hands
Print on plain white paper at 100% scale (“Actual size”), and use a soft pencil so mistakes rub out. For a group, the easy pack gives everyone the same six puzzles, so neighbours can compare progress. More help is in our printing guide.
